Let's turn those Tears into Stars
Tears into Stars by Rose. R Sales is a painful and memorable read as it goes diving into the depths of struggling with depression and not wanting to live anymore. It explores the feelings of what it's like to struggle with how cruel the world can be and how demotivation can overtake you and you feel there is no escape.
It’s a thought provoking read and incredibly relatable if you have gone through this yourself or if you have seen someone go through it. Even if you have not, it's eye opening and there will definitely be a poem that will connect with your heart and experiences.
This book has two chapters: Tears and Stars. Tears walks through the journey and feelings of when one is in an incredibly bad space. Stars explain what it's like when one is bravely coming back and is trying to heal from the scars left behind. What stuck with me at the end in the Stars chapters was how not everything was solved, not everything was okay but the person knew they would be okay, they were going to face their challenges and heal. And so often we forget the
in-between the phase of healing and hurting, the phase where you accept you are not okay.
The last few poems of the Stars chapter were empowering and full of promise that things would get better which is such a beautiful way to end a book. I questioned the author about what she wanted the readers to take away when they were finished reading her book and she wrote,
“When readers finish Tears Into Stars, I want them to feel hopeful—that life is beautiful and that they matter. I sincerely hope that as my words knock on their doors, they are worthy enough to bring even a moment of comfort. And if nothing else, may they offer a gentle push to start the next day with a renewed perspective.”
These words just beautifully summarise how I feel after reading this book. The ending was a great encouragement no matter how lost you are in the dark void of space, you will soon stumble upon a star.
The author's favourite line,
"Being perfectly imperfect and still being loved; that's the best part. It just proves you're enough.”
is a soft reminder that you don’t have to be perfect to be loved, you are enough and you should not have to do anything for unconditional true love. Rose R. Sales also wrote in many poems how God was there through every journey and how he loves us and supports us no matter where we are. We don't have to be perfect to deserve his love and that's amazing. A poem that stood out to me for showing this was Breathe and Holding On, in both, God was present, being a bright light of hope and source of support.
If you are looking for a heartbreaking, thought provoking poetry book, look no further Tears into Stars will take you on a deep dive with beautiful metaphors and words. There were quotes from this book that made me pause in excitement for a few seconds. It was like these lines were shooting stars flying through the night sky, beautiful and unforgettable. One of these quotes that will forever linger in my treasure trove of outstanding lines was:
Being in isolation is extremely scary. It's the time when my level of vulnerability is rising to the top, and my predators will arrive to devour my sanity.”
