“Life is a song that is sung with harmony and hope.”- Zowie Norris

Harmoniously Hopeful, a poetry book by Zowie Norris, an excellent author who has published two other poetry books. This book transports us into a story of hope, hurt and growth. The poems fly like butterflies over fields of topics, one topic that was lovely to read about was family. The author wrote many poems about her family. It was so beautiful to read about her love for her two daughters and husband as well as her love for her sister and their fun hiking adventures and memories. 


Her style of writing is consistent and her rhymes work incredibly well, they don't feel forced and they make the poem flow beautifully. Zowie writes honestly and adds a lovely personal touch to her poems which make the book more unique and relatable, not all writers can bring such a strong message of hurt, growth and hope while making it personal and connecting it with the readers.


 She shares truths and experiences as a woman and as a mother, and this makes it so relatable for all women and mothers everywhere. Zowie expresses such a deep connection to both her children and how she loves them so. She in addition talks about how her and her husband have different interests and how they still love each other and support each other. He gave honest feedback and true support while Zowie wrote this book. She also expresses deep grief about the loss of her mother and how she misses her.


One of my favourite poems was Thank you for the Music, a poem that used ABBA songs to tell a heartfelt story about going to see Mamma Mia- as a huge Mamma Mia and Abba fan I loved it! One of the memorable lines in the book that will remain close to my heart is: “Hold fast to kindness, honesty in your heart, Success is your journey, your own unique art.” It is a great reminder that everyone's story is different and everyone's art will never be like someone else's. 

Another line that is super encouraging is: “Spiritually brave and bright, standing tall, Ferocious female warrior, admired by all.” I love how inspiring and uplifting it is. 

If you are searching to read a book that will take you on a deep journey and will allow your mind to rest in a field of purple and yellow flowers with butterflies smiling at you with storms hunting in the distance, then this is the book for you. Zowie Norris has a deep connection with words and it furthermore brings you into a new world where you look to accept and embrace one's own story.

Locked behind a Door

The Fifth Floor: Room No. 512 is psychological drama, short novel written by Foziya Fatima. This story leads you behind locked doors in one's mind. It goes into great detail about how sometimes our mind will block out memories or create things in our mind to protect us.  The Fifth Floor's main character, a young 19 year old woman named Ania, goes through major trauma which causes her to end up in a medical facility. She is a brave and strong character and it was interesting and eye opening to follow her healing journey. I also really loved how Foziya Fatima wrote the nurse and psychologist, cause often in psychological dramas and thrillers they are often not understanding or don't treat their patients like people. I feel this added a lot of realism to the story. In addition I loved that Foziya Fatima did not show or write Ania as someone crazy. Let's turn those Tears into Stars

Tears into Stars by Rose. R Sales is a painful and memorable read as it goes diving into the depths of struggling with depression and not wanting to live anymore. It explores the feelings of what it's like to struggle with how cruel the world can be and how demotivation can overtake you and you feel there is no escape. It’s a thought provoking read and incredibly relatable if you have gone through this yourself or if you have seen someone go through it. Even if you have not, it's eye opening and there will definitely be a poem that will connect with your heart and experiences.   This book has two chapters: Tears and Stars.
